What is the new knowledge you gained?

I gained more knowledge about Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad. It was interesting to see Harriet and the slaves' journey to freedom.

What new information have you gained about the artist you researched; their media, materials; practice, etc.?

An artist I took into account when creating this project is Joseph Cornell, who is celebrated for boxed assemblages that extract inexplicable poetry from arrangements of humble objects and images – cork balls, metal springs, reproductions of parakeets, and Renaissance portraits.

What have you learned about yourself as an artist/researcher?

I learned that I still have a fear of starting my work, specifically non-digital work. I hesitated when beginning this project out of fear of messing up. This made me notice how I have gained more confidence doing digital work rather than drawings/paintings.

What are the three things you learned and will apply again in the future?

  1. I learned that doing research-based work can be informative.

  2. I need to be more comfortable when creating my work.

  3. Sketching before starting a piece is important.
